A design or an industrial model, every arrangement of lines or every shape of body, with or without colors, for use in industrial production, by mechanical, manual or chemical means.

The legal protection is secured by the registration of the design or model for five years, commencing from the date of application if the application had fulfilled the legal requirements. The protection may continue for two new consecutive periods. If the proprietor in writing of the expiration of the period. If within three months following the date of expiry of the protection period.

Priority can be claimed for designs and industrial models, provided that the period is six months from the date of submission of the application for registration in the foreign country.

Requirements:

      ·        Name of the Applicant(s)

·        Address of the Applicant(s)

·        Nationality of the Applicant(s)

·        Title

·        Name of the Inventor(s) or Designers

·        Address(s) of Inventor(s) or Designer(s)

·        Nationality

·        Occupation

·        Priority details

 And all other documents such as:

      ·     Legalized Power of Attorney

·     Legalized Certificate of Incorporation (same Certificate of may be used for continuous applications from the same applicant).

·     Two representations

·     Legalized Certified Priority Document(s).

·     Legalized Assignment of Design from Designer(s)

Should be filed at a later stage, if any documents other than English should be attached with an unlegalised copy of English translation.

At present, once an application is filed for a Design or models  no further action is taken by the Authority. The Kuwaiti Patent Office has not yet started the process of examining, publishing and granting of Designs or models. All designs & Models filed with the Kuwaiti Patent Office are practically in the application stage
